Clague Playhouse Celebrates 90 Seasons / 50 Years in the Barn!
The 2017-2018 season is a milestone anniversary for Clague Playhouse, as it celebrates 90 seasons bringing the art of theater to the Westlake community, with 50 years in the Clague Playhouse Barn.
“90 seasons under our belts, 50 years in Walter Clague’s barn, and still going strong! Now that is something to celebrate,” says Dottie Palazzo, Vice President of the Clague Playhouse Board of Directors. And there is plenty in store for the 2017-2018 season!
A Kickoff Dinner with dancing will start the celebratory year at Wagner’s of Westlake on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Cocktails and a meet and greet will begin at 6:00 pm, with dinner at 7:00 pm. The evening will include a brief history of theater, displays of costumes and artifacts from 9 decades of plays and door prizes and other surprises. Call the Box Office to make your reservation through August 5th. Tickets are $35 each and the menu includes: Sliced Choice Top Round Au jus, Chicken Piccata, or Vegetarian/Gluten Free option.
Anniversary Committee Member Bernice Bolek reflects on the milestone. “In 1927, a small group of women on the West Shore began producing live theater in the Little Red School House and for 40 years moved their productions around to multiple high school auditoriums. They called themselves the Bay Village Players, and they finally approached the City with an interest in Walter Clague’s old barn. In 1967, the City of Westlake leased the barn to them and supported their fund-raising campaign to renovate and upgrade the barn. Today, with new seating in place and audiences growing, it has gained prominence in Westlake.”
